If life imitated art, it would
be a simple matter to follow the dotted line and snip a 200-foot
dam near Ojai off the face of the earth.
For years, an alliance of environmentalists, fishermen, surfers
and officials from every level of government has called for
demolishing the obsolete structure.

Inyo National
Forest administrator Margaret Wood travels by horseback to view
grazing land as her horse drinks from Bullfrog Creek, where
California golden trout are found. The right of ranchers to
continue running cattle in the area is dependent on the outcome
of a dispute over how best to protect the besieged trout, which
is the official state fish.

Fish and Game
Commission to Review Proposed Regulation Changes for Striped
Bass
Posted 1/3/2012 |
|
California Department of Fish and
Game is inviting comments on proposed changes to regulations for
striped bass. The proposed regulations include provisions which
would raise daily limits from 2 to 6 fish, raise possession
limits, and lower the size limit from 18 inches to 12 inches.
The proposed regulations are controversial and opposed by many
fishing groups, including California Sportfishing Protection
Alliance and the Northern California Council of the Federation
of Fly Fishers. The Fish and Game Commission will decide whether
to pursue the proposed regulations at a meeting in Sacramento
on February 2, 2012. If they choose to pursue the proposal it
begins a process that includes at least three public hearings
and the completion of an environmental document. A final
decision is not expected until later in 2012.
